I know, you wished there were more of your class . . but use this as a stepping stone to contact more of your "people" . . . it was so much fun reconnecting again, and if you need to "borrow" my Sherlock Holmes hat, just let me know. . . I'll help in anyway I can. The website helped everyone see who was coming, but also probably caused some of your classmates to think - well I'm not going to come, because so and so isn't going. . . even at 50 we're still thinking like 13 year olds going to the party on the block. . Who's going to be there? What will I wear?

Okay Hope Garcia Dobbs, I'm thinking about this today, and since I re "met" you, I talk like I did when I was 13 on the phone , get my nails done, took make up lessons with you and learned how to use a slot machine. Here's to many more "laugh til I cry" moments. . . I can't stop smiling when I write this - - you are a good friend! AND wow what a memory of the neighborhood - - you could write a book!

So, thanks to everyone - hope you all enjoyed yourself as much as I did last night. . . Keep in touch with each other and with me

Josie

Jane Byrne

Does ANYBODY remember that the former Chicago mayor Jane Byrne was a substitute teacher at Beaubien for awhile during Class of 1965 5th grade? I remember her talking about half-truths and Napoleon Bonaparte and Josephine; talking about her daughter Kathy (probably 3 years old at that time) meeting JFK. This was probably around 1961-1962. Oh, yes, I remember her...she left quite an impression.

submitted by anonymous

Memories from Hope Garcia

Do you remember these things??

Kindergarten - getting to take a nap and playing with a wooden sink, stove and frig and going from the little kindergarten to the big kindergarten to watch cartoons
Bill Forkell’s parents candy store across the street from the school - serving hotdogs and kayo for Lunch
Josie’ dad coming to school on party days with ice cream - - party on!
Hitting your crazy bone on the metal part of your desk and thinking your arm was going to fall off
Wasps in the room caused mass panics - no screens on windows - no air conditioning - from May on we all were screaming - - drove the teachers crazy
Long pole for pulling open and close the top windows
Janitor’s closet where you emptied your paint water and stalled in the hallway so you didn’t have to go right back to class
Boys got to clean erasers on Fridays (lucky them - filling their lungs with chalk dust)
Some poor kid sitting on the heat register at the top of the stairs in the hallway to dry his pants (why???)
Rocco or someone cleaning up throw up with sawdust
Being a Hall monitor, messenger or door holder - got you out of at least a little class time.
